Project at the Peak –
Who bears the Risk?

Room 4

3:30 – 4:15 pm

Take the lead when it counts - and steer projects safely through any terrain.

Description:

A misstep, a misjudged slope - every detail counts on the mountain. Projects require the same level of attention. If you want to lead safely, you have to recognise risks before they become visible. Alexandra Hänig shows what project management can learn from mountaineering: making clear decisions, sharing responsibility, creating trust. She talks about her own borderline experiences in the mountains - situations in which more was at stake than time or budget. She builds a bridge to business and supports her insights with figures, studies and analyses. Her path to becoming a project manager did not begin in the office, but on narrow paths, high above the tree line.

Key Takeaways:

Experience how principles from mountaineering can sharpen your project management. Learn how to recognise risks early on and manage them effectively - not just in the project, but throughout the entire company. The presentation will show you how to cleverly involve stakeholders and organise projects with a strategic view to sustainability (SDG 9, 10, 12, 16).

Alexandra Hänig (Germany)

Alexandra Hänig combines over 20 years of international project experience with her passion for mountaineering. As an entrepreneur, coach and assessor, she supports managers in the realisation of complex projects. Her presentations bridge the gap between strategy and borderline experience: over 800 kilometres on foot in Spain, 30 via ferratas, 14 four-thousand-metre peaks - including the Dufourspitze. For her, project management begins where responsibility becomes tangible.
